MUMBAI – Prices of chana were up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, ahead of the festive season, traders said. Prices of tur were steady in Karnataka's Kalaburagi, the India Pulses and Grains Association said. Similarly, prices of moong were also steady in the key market today, it said.
CHANA prices in Indore were up by 50 rupees at 7,100-7,150 rupees per 100 kg, said Kailash Kakani, a local trader. However, prices in Khamgaon, Maharashtra, were stable at 6,300-6,600 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the pulse in the market were steady at 400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said.
"In the long term, chana prices are not seen declining," said Kailash Kakani, a Madhya Pradesh-based trader. "With the upcoming festival, and weddings season, demand for chana could improve further," Kakani added.
"However, better sowing of pulses this season could affect mandi prices negatively," said Veer Kumar Kadkol, a Karnataka-based trader.
Lower production, expensive imports, falling government stocks, and higher demand ahead of the festival season starting early next month are likely to support chana prices, the association said in the weekly outlook.
TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were steady against the previous day at 10,227-11,400 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were up at 1,887 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), against 553 bags a day ago. Prices of tur in Akola, Maharashtra, were up by 50 rupees at 11,300-11,350 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals steady at 800 bags. Tur prices are seen down due to upcoming arrivals from Africa and prospects of a robust harvest in India, traders said.
Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were stable at 7,200-7,700 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals fell to 50 bags today from 500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) on the previous day, the association said. Arrivals fell due to heavy rains in the region, traders said.
According to Kadkol, the moong market is expected to remain stable in the coming months. However, observing the strong production of moong this kharif season, decline in market prices could be seen in the long run, said Veerkumar Kadkol, a local trader from Karnataka. End
