MUMBAI – Prices of chana and moong were steady in key markets of the country today, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Tur prices fell across major markets, the association said.

CHANA prices in Khamgaon, Maharashtra, were stable at 6,500-6,800 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the pulse in the market were up 200 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) at 600 bags, the association said. Similarly, prices at Amravati in Maharashtra were steady at 6,400-6,650 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals were up 200 bags at 700 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said.

Prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were down slightly by 20 rupees at 7,150-7,180 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. "These fluctuations of 10–30 rupees do not affect the market much," Kakani said. "Chana prices could improve during the next month due to increased buying driven by upcoming festival demand," Kakani said.

Prices of chana at Kalaburagi in Karnataka were steady at 7,150 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Veerkumar Kadkol said. Chana prices are expected to remain high till Diwali due to anticipated seasonal demand, Kadkol said.

TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were down 100 rupees at 10,621-11,550 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were unchanged at 685 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Prices of tur in Akola, Maharashtra, were down 100 rupees at 10,000-11,550 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals at 600 bags. Currently, tur prices are down 3.5% from a month ago, but up 14% from a year ago, the association said. Tur plantings have risen sharply this year. The acreage under tur surged 73% to 3.3 mln ha as of Jul 19, according to agriculture ministry data. The pulse acreage was 1.3 mln ha in Karnataka and 1.1 mln ha in Maharashtra, the association said.

Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were stable at 7,000-7,700 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals rose by 1,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) to 4,000 bags, the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were stable at 7,000-8,100 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals falling by 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) at 4,000 bags, it said. Prices in Kalaburagi were steady at 7,700-7,750 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkol said. New kharif moong has a moisture content of around 18-30%, Kadkol said. However, good quality of moong is hardly available right now in the spot markets of Karnataka. The new kharif moong has arrived at Gadag market in Karnataka and is being priced at 7,400-9,500 rupees per 100 kg depending on the quality, the association said.  End
