Mixed; chana up ahead of festival demand; moong flat

MUMBAI – Prices of pulses were mixed in key spot markets in the country today. Prices of chana rose, while tur fell in key spot markets, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Moong prices were stable across major markets, the association said.
CHANA prices in Khamgaon in Maharashtra rose 100 rupees to 6,500-6,800 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the pulse in the market were down 100 bags to 400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. Prices at Amravati in Maharashtra also rose 100 rupees to 6,400-6,650 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals were unchanged at 500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said.
Prices in Indore in Madhya Pradesh were up 50 rupees to 7,180-7,200 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. The rise in chana prices was due to increased buying activity, driven by expectations of upcoming seasonal demand, Kakani said.
Chana is being traded at 7,000 rupees per 100 kg in Bikaner in Rajasthan and at 7,250 rupees per 100 kg in Delhi, according to media reports.
Prices of chana at Kalaburagi in Karnataka rose 50 to 7,150 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Veerkumar Kadkol said. Chana prices are expected to remain high till Diwali due to anticipated seasonal demand, Kadkol said.
TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were down 100 rupees at 11,250-11,550 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were unchanged at 685 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Currently, tur prices are down 3.5% from a month ago and up 14% from a year ago, the association said.
Tur plantings have risen sharply this year. The acreage under tur surged 73% to 3.3 mln ha as of Jul 19, according to agriculture ministry data. The pulse acreage was 1.3 mln ha in Karnataka and 1.1 mln ha in Maharashtra, the association said.
Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were stable at 7,000-7,700 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals fell by 1,000 bags to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were stable at 7,000-8,100 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals up by 2,000 bags at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), it said. Prices in Kalaburagi were steady at 7,700-7,750 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkol said.
India's kharif moong acreage is at 2.5 mln ha so far, up 10.3% from a year ago. End
