Mixed; chana prices up in key markets, moong steady

MUMBAI – Prices of chana rose across most markets in the country today, while prices of tur fell, the India Pulses and Grains Association said. Moong prices were stable across major markets, the association said.

 

Prices of CHANA in Khamgaon, Maharashtra, were up by 100 rupees at 6,400-6,650 rupees per 100 kg, even as arrivals increased by 100 bags to 500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. Prices at Amravati, Maharashtra, rose by 100 rupees and were at 6,300-6,650 rupees per 100 kg, though arrivals were unchanged at 500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said.

 

Similarly, prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were up by 100 rupees at 7,150-7,200 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. Chana prices are improving but at a slow pace, he said, adding that from mid-August, prices could see major improvement due to festival demand. 

 

However, prices of chana at Kalaburagi in Karnataka were stable at 7,100 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Veerkumar Kadkol said. 

 

TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Akola were down by 300 rupees at 10,000-11,000 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals remaining unchanged at 800 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Prices at Hingaghat, Maharashtra, were down 700 rupees at 11,200-11,950 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals increasing by 200 bags to 1,400 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. The price trend for tur will mostly depend on supply of the commodity from Africa, and the progress of the monsoon, the association said.

 

Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were stable at 7,000-7,700 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals increasing by 3,000 bags to 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were stable at 7,000-8,100 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals down 1,000 bags at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) from 5,000 bags, it said.

 

The Madhya Pradesh government has requested for an increase in the procurement target or a halt to procurement, the association said. So far, 225,421 tn of moong has been procured, missing the target of 330,763 tn. About 35,000 tn is procured daily. The government aims to meet the target in the next two or three days, the association said. 

 

Prices in Kalaburagi were down by 100 rupees at 7,700-7,750 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkol said. India's kharif moong acreage is at 2.5 mln ha so far, against 2.3 mln ha a year ago.  End
