--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 23 rainfall 373.1 mm, 1% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 12.9 mm, 37% above the normal of 9.4 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 373.1 mm of rainfall, 1% above the normal of 370.9 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.

 

Two of the four homogeneous regions in the country received below normal showers, while the other two received above normal rainfall. Rainfall was 32% below normal at 9.0 mm in east and northeast India and 30% below normal at 5.1 mm in the south peninsula. Rainfall was 27% above normal at 8.6 mm in northwest India. Similarly, it was 106% above normal in central India at 23.1 mm.

 

So far during the season, rainfall has been normal in 15 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall was 'large excess' in two, 'excess' in 11, and 'deficient' in eight subdivisions.

 

The department today forecast extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and over central Maharashtra till Wednesday. Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Odisha till Friday, over Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Gujarat Thu-Sat and over costal Karnataka today. Very heavy rainfall is likely in some parts of west and east Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh till Wednesday and over Kerala and Mahe on Thursday, the weather agency said.

 

Parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and east Rajasthan are likely to receive very heavy rainfall till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Additionally, above normal temperatures with high humidity are likely to prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the next two days. Some parts of Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive very heavy rainfall today, the weather agency said.  End
