NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat and maize were unchanged across the key wholesale markets of the country today due to thin trade, traders said.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota, a key market in Rajasthan, were flat because of steady bulk demand and unchanged supply, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.

* In Kota, fresh wheat crop was sold at 2,300 rupees per 100 kg today, and the old crop was quoted at 2,220 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were pegged at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), unchanged from Thursday.

* The new wheat crop has started arriving at the Kota market in the past few days, and the quality has improved, Mehta said.

* Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were flat today. Arrivals were at 15,000 bags, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.

* Rise in arrivals is likely to weigh on the prices of the commodity in the coming days, but firm demand from bulk buyers may limit the fall, Agarwal said.

* Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, were flat today as lukewarm demand from bulk buyers was offset by a drop in arrivals, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.

* Arrivals were estimated at 700 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), down 300 bags from the previous day.

* In Purnea, Bihar, maize prices remained stable, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi. Arrivals were pegged at 400 bags, down 200 bags from Thursday.

* Supply of the coarse grain may decline even further over the coming days because of the ongoing lean season, and fresh crop will hit markets in the first week of April.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
