NEW DELHI – Prices of maize fell in Davanagere, Karnataka, while those of wheat fell in Kota, Rajasthan, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE fell in Davanagere due to increase in arrivals and high moisture content in the fresh crops, market participants said.

* Arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 65 kg) today, up 300 bags from Thursday.

* Prices of maize were flat in the key market of Purnea, Bihar, due to unchanged demand and supply. Arrivals were pegged steady at 11,250 bags, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local dealer.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT fell in Kota amid weak demand for the commodity as the government extended the free food grain scheme, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.

* Arrivals were pegged at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 5,000 bags from the previous day of trade.

* The government, on Wednesday, extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana to provide food grains free of cost to the poor by three months till Dec 31, at an additional cost of 448 bln rupees.

* In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the crop was sold at 2,400 rupees per 100 kg, and arrivals were steady at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), unchanged from the previous day, local trader N.K. Agarwal said.

* "Government's decision to extend the free food plan will bring down the prices of wheat by 50-100 rupees over the next 15 days," Agarwal said.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were stable today because of regular steady demand from bulk buyers, traders said.
