NEW DELHI - The number of e-way bills generated in June rose 19.3% on year to 119.46 million, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. Sequentially, however, the number of e-way bills generated fell 2.6% from 122.65 million in May.
At 19.3%, the on-year growth in generation of e-way bills in June was higher than the 18.9% growth in the previous month. An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
The increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions are reflected in the next month's collections. GST collections rose 6.2% on year to INR 1.85 trillion in June, data released earlier this month showed. End
