MUMBAI – An upper air cyclonic circulation is expected to emerge over the northern Andaman Sea Tuesday, which is likely to lead to the formation of a low pressure area over the northern and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Under its influence, very heavy rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal Thursday, over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday and Saturday, and over Bihar during the weekend, it said.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms with a few spells of heavy showers are also likely over most parts of eastern and central India till Sunday, the weather department said.

Under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood, very heavy rainfall is likely over the same region till Thursday, the department said. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 km per hour are very likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep till Tuesday and over most parts of southern India till Wednesday.

The weather department has forecast very heavy rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday and Friday. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms are also likely over most parts of northeast India till Sunday.

Currently, the line of monsoon withdrawal passes through Veraval and Bharuch in Gujarat, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, and Jhansi and Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the weather department said. Conditions are not favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon in the next seven days, the department said Sunday. End
