The area sown under kharif crops in Karnataka progressed to 5.46 million hectares as of Friday, down 0.2% on year from 5.47 million hectares sown in the corresponding period last year, according to a report released by the state agriculture department. Maize acreage in the state rose 14% on year to 1.49 million hectares, the report showed.
