Lauding the government's decision to include caste enumeration in the next census, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi Wednesday sought a timeline by when the census would be conducted. "This (caste census) is our vision. They adopted it. It's good," Gandhi said. "But government must tell the dates of the census. We support it, but we also want a timeline. We want to know by when it will be done." The decennial census was last conducted in 2011. It was due in 2021 but was postponed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and has remained pending since.
