NEW DELHI – Ex-mill prices of sugar were flat in key wholesale markets of north India, while those in Maharashtra were marginally lower today, dealers said.

* The government has set the limit for sale of sugar by mills at 2.1 mln tn in June, lower than the 2.25 mln tn set in May, since demand usually remains lower in monsoon.

* Apart from households, there is not much demand in the markets, as no festival is coming up, said Mukesh Kuvadia, secretary of the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association.

* Following are the highlights of the sugar trade in the domestic market:

(Changes in price per 100 kg)

--Down 5 rupees at 3,355-3,375 rupees in Kolhapur

--Down 5 rupees at 3,525-3,677 rupees in Mumbai

* On the Intercontinental Exchange, the most-active October contract of raw sugar was down 0.1% at 19.35 cents per pound.

* "Right now, the indication is that prices will fall in the coming days," Delhi-based trader Naresh Gupta said.  End
