MUMBAI – A low pressure area, currently lying over southwest Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood, is likely to slowly move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh in the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over several parts of east and central India in the next three-four days, the department said.

Light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching

30-40 km per hour is likely over most parts of east and central India, the weather department said. Intense cloud to ground lightning is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh on Monday, the weather department said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of northwest India in the next four-five days, the weather bureau said. A wet spell with thundersorms and lightning is seen over the western Himalayan region and over many parts of the northwestern plains in the next seven days, the bureau said.

A trough at mean sea level, running along the coasts of south Gujarat and north Kerala, is expected to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coasts of west India, the weather department said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra in the next seven days. Heavy rainfall is seen over Gujarat region till Wednesday, over Marathwada on Tuesday and Wednesday, and over Saurashtra and Kutch over the weekend, it said.

Light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over many parts of northeast India in the next seven days, the weather bureau said. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura till Sunday, and over Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Sunday. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Meghalaya on Monday, the bureau said.

Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of coastal Karnataka and Kerala till Sunday, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Telangana till Wednesday, the weather department said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema in the next seven days, it said.

Hot and humid weather is likely over Tamil Nadu till Wednesday, the weather department said. End
