MUMBAI – Global alumina production was flat on month at 12.51 mln tn in August, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. The output was nearly unchanged from August last year.

The average daily global alumina production was marginally up at 403,612 tn in August from 403,581 July, according to the revised data.

Alumina production in China rose 0.1% on month to 7.4 mln tn in August. The country's output was up 1.4% on year, and accounted for over 59% of the global alumina production, the data showed.

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell to 1.39 mln tn in August from 1.45 mln tn in July. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose to 1.23 mln tn from 1.21 mln tn in July, the data showed. In Europe, alumina production rose 2% on month to 641,000 tn in August from 628,000 tn in July and output in South America rose 2.9% on month to 1.02 mln tn in August, the data showed.

According to the latest data, global primary aluminium production fell 0.1% in August to 6.18 mln tn from 6.19 mln tn in July. At 1502 IST, the most-active October aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.7% at 240.90 rupees per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 1.2% at $2,643 per tn. End
